He's still clutching the box like it's some kind of unearthed treasure and I suppose in a way it sort of is. All these kids put so much thought and heart and soul into every one of those cards and they did it because of Jack. For Jack. Of course it's a treasure.
Jack leans his head on me and I feel my heart just break a little as I give his knee a light squeeze. "Those kids really meant a lot to you, sweetheart. Of course you're bummed. I was always bummed at the end of summer camp too and I only saw those kids for two weeks, not a whole summer. But the good news is you'll see a lot of them next year. If you wanna do it again, of course."
